While the main protaginists are gay this is treated as no big deal and there are no sexually explicit episodes in the book. I would not hesitate to allow any reasonably mature teenager to read it.The story takes place primarily in a very small duchy in Europe the does not actually exist but seems like it could be based slightly on San Marino.
The medicine and genetics in the main story line is questionable scientifically IMO but the book is overall well written and enjoyable.

I love Etienne's stories - I don't think I've read one that I didn't enjoy!
Please keep writing great stories!
I've read the whole series several times and always find something new and interesting.
Except for minor instances of scene changes, it captures my interest.
